History

Originally, Krewe du Congo was the coterie established by Legba upon his arrival in New Orleans and consisted of himself and his ghouls. In the last two centuries, it has grown considerably so that it is now the largest group of vampires in New Orleans. When Legba agreed to bring them into the Sabbat in 1970, they became a proper pack and shared the rites necessary to bind them together. Since then, it has split into roughly two factions, led by Jacques Paris and his childe Marie Laveau, each trying to establish themselves as successor to Legba while trying to convince the elder to return to Haiti. The conflict also has a religious element, with Marie's supporters sharing her support for the Path of Cathari, while those loyal to Paris and his sire tend towards Power and the Inner Voice.

The pack was strongly associated with Voodoo during its first century and while it still have strong ties to it, the religion is not nearly as central to the pack as it was a century ago. Voodoo does, however, still figure prominantly into pack rites, mixed with Catholic imagery and Setite lore. An outside observer would hardly recognize them as Sabbat if not for the familiar elements of vaulderie. Their creation rites in particular are seen as weak by many Sabbat traditionalists who don't understand their significance. Usually, they involve excess, sin, and debachery to such a level that it threatens to destroy the candidate. If they have the strength of will to survive it with their will intact, they are accepted.

The strength of the pack has always been in sin and this is their primary tool for influencing the mortal world. Focusing their interests in criminal activity, primarily prostitution and the drug trade, putting them into conflict with Baptiste of the Tenebras Pack and Fiori of the Motley Krewe. Their strongest influence is the street-level operations, though, while their competitors focus on drug smuggling and organized crime, respectively. Their influence outside of the city, however, is limited.
